Thermoforming Copper Mold Production Process
Below is the step-by-step procedure for manufacturing cast aluminum vacuum forming molds. The molds are made from cast aluminum alloy and are used for thick gauge vacuum forming applications.
Client Requirements Communication
Gather product specifications: dimensions, usage, material, etc.
Understand the functional requirements of the thermoformed product (e.g., protection, display, transport)
Product Design (Structural Drawing)
Engineers create thermoforming drawings based on client input (typically using CAD or SolidWorks)
Mold structure design includes draft angles, ribs, vent holes, etc.
Design Confirmation
Send 2D/3D drawings to the client for approval
Revise design based on client feedback (e.g., dimensions, structure)
Prototype Sampling (Optional)
Sometimes a prototype/sample is made first (via 3D printing or CNC machining) for client approval
Copper Mold Machining
Use CNC machining centers or engraving machines to cut the copper block
Finish the mold surface (grinding, polishing, etc.)
Process vent holes and detailed structures
Trial Molding (Test Forming)
Install the copper mold on the thermoforming machine for a trial run Check product forming quality, wall thickness consistency, demolding performance, dimensional accuracy, etc.
Client Sample Approval
Send molded samples to the client for confirmation
Revise based on client feedback if needed
Mold Adjustment (If Required)
Fine-tune or modify the mold based on client feedback
Final Mold Finishing
Finalize the mold, apply rust prevention, label, and engrave identification
Mold is ready for mass production
Mold or Product Delivery
If the client ordered the mold: pack and ship the copper mold
If the factory provides OEM service: begin mass production and ship the thermoformed products
